범죄예방을 위한 소규모 근린생활시설 공중화장실 연구

Abstract

In Korea, most public restrooms in small neighborhood facilities are for both men and women, increasing the probability of a crime. This study aims to explore how to improve public restrooms to be a safer facility. For this purpose, first, we identified evaluation items based on literature review and site surveys. Second, we set evaluation criteria based on design standards and guidelines on restroom planning, and evaluated safety of public restroom. Lastly, we analyze problems of public restrooms and discuss how to improve them. As for evaluation item, exterior elements of a restroom included width of entrance, width of corridor, and the location of a restroom in the building. Restroom entrance was evaluated in terms of door material and signage, and restroom interior was evaluated in terms of whether it is open to the public, whether men’s and women’s restrooms are separated, and maintenance condition. Common facilities were evaluated in terms of installation of CCTV, emergency call, and lighting. Based on evaluation results, we suggested a total 19 areas of improvement.
