Abstract
This paper presents the results of an analysis of the correlation between the components of braking pads applied to urban railway vehicles and the coefficient of friction. For the five brake pads composed of various components, tests were performed by the dynamometer configured the same as the actual railway vehicle and analyzed the effect on the coefficient of friction for each major component of the friction material. Regardless of the component proportions of the friction material, the lower the initial braking speed, the wider the spread of the friction coefficient. Components such as iron powder tended to increase the coefficient of friction at least, depending on their content, and the more ingredients such as carbon, the lower the coefficient of friction. The results of this study are thought to be able to improve the characteristics of friction materials applied to railway vehicles to help safe operation and reduce the cost of repeated testing and the time it takes months to years for railway parts manufacturers to be tested according to the mix ratio and test.
