백석 시의 시어에 나타난 모음 첨가현상과 시적 효과

이 글은 백석 시의 시어에 나타난 특이한 음운현상을 밝히고, 이를 통해 일부 시어의 어석과 조어형태를 규명하며, 그러한 음운현상이 백석의 시에 어떠한 시적 의미와 효과를 미치는 지를 분석한 것이다. 백석시의 시어 전체를 구체적인 용례와 함께 일별해 보면 모음첨가의 현상이 뚜렷이 나타난다. 백석 시의 시어에는 한글 자모의 여러 모음들이 음운현상의 필요에 따라 다양하게 첨가되고 있는데, 그 중에 두드러진 모음들을 열거하면 ‘이’, ‘어’, ‘우’, ‘으’ 등을 들 수 있다. 동사나 형용사 등의 용언에 ‘이’나 ‘우’음이 첨가되면 사동이나 피동의 의미로 전환되지만, 백석시의 시어에선 그러한 의미전환 없이 이러한 접사들이 들어가는 경우가 많다. 그런가 하면 우리말에서 사용되지 않는 피동접사 ‘우’가 사용된 특이한 시어들도 발견된다. 백석시의 시어에 나타난 이러한 독특한 음운현상과 조어형태의 파악을 통해 일부 시어의 뜻이 명확히 규명될 수 있었다. 또 합성동사의 형성과정에 ‘어’ 음이 추가로 첨가되기도 하며, 용언의 활용에 ‘으’ 음이 첨가되기도 한다. 백석시의 시어 전반에 걸쳐 모음첨가의 시어들이 구사됨으로써 그의 시적 구문들은 길게 늘어지는 경향을 보이며, 이러한 시적 문장들이 백석시의 중요한 개성을 이룬다. 모음첨가의 시어들은 표준어와 비교할 때 모음운의 첨가로 음성자질이 바뀌고, 음절수의 증가로 어형이 바뀐다. 이러한 시어의 음성적, 형태적 변화는 시어의 의미를 미세하게 변화시킨다. 모음첨가로 새로운 의미를 유발하는 시어들은 백석시의 시 구절에 적절히 배치되어 다른 시어들과 일정한 호응관계를 이루면서 백석시의 표현들을 미학적으로 승화시키며, 시의 의미를 절실하고 생기 있게 환기시킨다. 백석 시에서 모음첨가의 시어들은 운율의 형성에 기여한다. 백석의 시는 사람살이의 모습을 서술해 나가는 경향이 크기 때문에 대체로 산문적인 형태를 띤다. 시의 구문들도 대체로 길고, 문장의 형태도 중문과 복문이 많다. 긴 산문적인 시 형태를 띠고 있으나, 그 안에 음절수의 조절로 운율 감을 부여한다. 이때에 모음 첨가의 시어들이 중요한 역할을 한다. 산문적인 구문의 운율 조성에 모음첨가의 시어들이 효과적인 운율 장치로 작용하여 산문적인 백석의 시에 운율 감을 고조시키고 낭송의 쾌감을 발생시킨다.
Abstract
This paper is about characteristics of poetic words in Baek- seok's poetry and by this research I believe Baek- Seok's poetry would be more accurately understood. In Baek-seok's poetic words, vowel 'i', 'eo', 'u', 'eu' and etc are added. In general when affix 'i' is added to verb or adjective, the word changes into causative verb or passive verb. However in Baek-seok's poetry these addition is done many times without changing the original meaning. Also, 'eo' is added to synthesis verb and vowel 'u', which is passive and causative affix, is added in many words. 'u' has vanished in standard language but it appears a lot in Baek-seok's poetry. Poetic words like 'mallioonun', 'jichioon', 'chioou' in Baek-seok's poetry are not used in standard language. Also, in inflexion of predivate, vowel 'eu' is added, which breaks the grammar of standard language. In Baek-seok's poetry, these phenomenon is shown not just in nown and adjectives but also in nown words. This may be due to confusion of orthography before standard language being settled. In fact, dialect is mixed in with standard language in Baek-seok's poetry. However, vowel addition appears significantly even if the poetry is written before the settlement of standard language. Likewise, in Baek-seok's poetry there are many vowel additions which result in long syntax of overall poems. Vowel-added words is changed in it's form and sound compared to standardized words. This change leads to different meaning of the word. These altered words are well arranged in poetic lines. Appropriate mixation of vowel-added words and other poetic words is what makes Baek-seok's poetry beautiful and lively. Vowel-added words also have impact on rhythm. Baek-seok's poetry resembles prose in form as it narrates the life of people. The syntax is mostly lengthy and the form of sentences are a compound sentence and a complex sentence in many times. The rhythm is made by adjusting syllable number in the poem. Vowel-added words contributes largely into this rhythmic device.
