조선왕릉 연지 발굴조사 내용과 방법-여주 영릉(英陵)과 영릉(寧陵) 유적을 중심으로-

조선왕릉은 일제강점기와 1960~70년대 실시된 성역화 사업을 거치며 그 원형이 훼손되거나 멸실된 경우가 많다. 2009년, 세계유산으로 선정된 전후로 능제 복원사업과 관련한 조사 및 연구가 지속적으로 이어지고 있으나, 주로 능제 복원을 위한 건축, 석조미술, 입지 및 공간 구성 등의 건축학, 미술사학, 조경학 관련 연구에 집중되어있는 실정이다. 유적의 진정성 있는 복원을 위해서는 발굴조사를 통한 원형 고증(고고학적 연구성과)이 반드시 뒷받침되어야 함은 자명한 일이다. 본 글에서는 여주 영릉(英陵)과 영릉(寧陵) 유적 발굴조사를 중심으로 조선왕릉 연지 발굴조사 내용과 방법에 대해 살펴보고자 한다. 먼저, 문헌조사를 통해 고문헌의 기록과 현존하고 있는 연지의 현황에 대하여 파악하고, 기왕에 발굴조사된 화성 만년제 유적과 구리 동구릉(숭릉) 연지의 성과를 정리해보고 이번 발굴조사에서 확인된 연지의 원위치와 형태, 벽석 구성방식 등을 비교·분석해 보았다. 또한, 능제 복원설계의 기초자료로 사용된 옛 물길(수계)를 추정 연구(고지도 / 舊 지형도및 지적도 / 과거 항공사진 등의 자료를 수집·분석)와 연지의 자연과학적분석 연구(퇴적환경 및 방사성탄소 연대측정 등)에 대한 내용을 소개하였고, 조선왕릉 연지 발굴조사의 기존 방법(토층조사, 트렌치조사 및 전면 발굴(노출)조사 등) 외에 사전(문헌)조사, 현장조사, 자연과학적 분석, 문화유산 활용을 위한 콘텐츠 마련 등의 방법을 제안하였다. 향후 지속될 조선왕릉 정비사업에 앞서 적극적인 발굴조사를 실시하여 원형 고증의 기초자료가 축적되어야 할 것이고, 다양한 분야의 학제간 연구가 함께 진행되어 더 발전된 능제 복원사업이 이루어지기를 기대해 본다.
Abstract
The Royal tombs of Joseon Dynasty were often damaged or destroyed during the Japanese colonial era and the sanctification projects conducted in the 1960s and 1970s. In 2009, research on the restoration of Neungje continued before and after being selected as a World Heritage Site, but it is focused on architecture, art history, and landscape studies such as architecture, stone art, location and space composition for the restoration of Neungje. It’s clear that archeological historical evidence(archaeological research result) through excavation must be supported for the sincere restoration of the remains. In this article, we would like to examine the research method of the Royal Tomb of Joseon Dynasty, focusing on the excavation of Yeongneung and Nyeongneung ruins in Yeoju. First of all, the records of ancient documents and the current status of existing lounges were identified through a literature survey, and the results of the Hwaseong ice cap and Guri Donggurung Lounges were compared and analyzed. In addition, an estimation study of the old waterway (water system) used as the basic data for the restoration of the tomb(collecting and analyzing data such as an old map / old topographic map and cadastral map / past aerial photographs) and a natural scientific analysis study(depositional environment and radiocarbon dating, etc.) will be introduced. Prior to the ongoing renovation of the Royal Tombs of Joseon Dynasty, we hope that the basic data of archetypes will be accumulated, and that interdisciplinary research in various fields will be carried out together to further develop the Neungje Restoration Project.
