The following thesis is about what relationship can help to form one’s good self representation which promotes the mental health of modern human beings who have had bad self representation by psychopathology since self representation is formed as a result of experience of relations to the object, which is radically different from others. The container and the holding relationship of clinical relationship and pastoral care of object relations theories can form good self representation, moreover it could bring a positive influence to those in our community and lead them to have the courage to live a creative life. That is the essential point. Chapter II explains the therapeutic relationship between the client and the counselor which together can form good self representation in the clinical way; the relationship of the container and the contained; the relationship of the holding and good-enough mother; the relationship of empathy and the free-floating attention. Chapter III talks about how an individual can form good self representation through preaching, worship service, praying, pastoral counseling to provide a pastoral care by using resources in the churches. In conclusion, the foundation in forming one’s good self representation is ultimately based on one’s experience of the internal relationship with the initial fosterer(parents). When this fails to work, it is necessary for them to find and experience new good object relations in order to build good self representation. To experience good object relations, I would like to state that the parents’ role of bringing up children, building a positive mental health, checking-up on facilities in the community, educating one’s conscience to build a healthy self identity in schools, providing qualitative education to religious people who are narrow-minded, and establishing a new effective counseling theory will be required.
