초록

This paper aims for exploring how Asian American writers, Maxine Hong Kingston and Chang Rae Lee, create a lliteary space in which new subjectivities via desubjectitification emerges reflecting the actual space in which globlization, hybridization, and multi- direcitonal diaspora occur. I analyze Maxing Hong Kingston's China Men first to show how she de-gender her own narrative to represent Chinese men's heroic and nomadic lives in early immigration and their frustration which results in settlement in Chinatown. In turn, I analyze Change Rae Lee's third novel, Aloft, to analyze why and how he uses white male's voice to tell a postethnic stories. The narrative of Jerry, the narrator of Aloft, hides Real in which a Korean woman's tragic life is hidden. This Real is a kernel that debunks the dark side of postethnicity. As theoretical scaffolding, I use mainly Deleuze and Guattari's concepts. This paper concludes with critical view of both writers' attempts.
