초록
The Word for World Is Forest allows us to comprehensively examine contemporary issues humanity faces-such as those related to the environment, ecology, capitalism, and colonialism-beyond the 1960s, when Ursula K. Le Guin motivated herself to work on the novel. In other words, while the novel reflects the era of the Vietnam War, it transcends that period to address the problems we face today, thereby achieving universality. This study conducts an in-depth analysis of Athsheans' resistance to the harms caused by capitalism and the violence of imperialism in The Word for World Is Forest. In particular, this paper incorporates Jason W. Moore's theory of capitalism and Frantz Fanon's critique of colonialism. First, based on Moore's theory, it explores the relationship between capitalism and ecological destruction as depicted in the work. Then, using Fanon's theory, it examines how colonial domination grounded in capitalist imperialism is portrayed, how the colonized resist this domination in decolonial ways, and how decolonial subversion unfolds in The Word for World Is Forest.
Abstract
The Word for World Is Forest allows us to comprehensively examine contemporary issues humanity faces-such as those related to the environment, ecology, capitalism, and colonialism-beyond the 1960s, when Ursula K.
