기독영어교사교육에서 환대의 덕목과 그 실천적 적용 방안 탐색

본 연구는 기독영어교사들이 문화간 화자로서 타문화권 화자들에 대해 적극적인 관심을 갖고 의사소통을 하기 위해 환대의 덕목을 교사양성 프로그램에적용하는 방안을 탐색하고자 하였다. 현재 우리 사회는 4차 산업혁명과 다문화사회 시대를 맞아 급격한 변화를 경험하고 있다. 이러한 시대적 변화에 부응하여 기독영어교사들은 초연결시대에 타문화권 화자들을 수용하고 인정하면서 이방인을 환대하는 겸손한 자세가 요구된다. 기독교인들은 이 땅에서 나그네요 이방인이라는 성경적 가치관에 근거하여 하나님의 환대를 타자에게 베풀고 실천할 사명이 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 환대의 개념을 성경적 맥락과 외국어교육의 상황에서 그 의미를 고찰한 후 기독영어교사교육 프로그램에서 환대를 어떻게 적용할 수 있을지 실천적인 방안을 제안하고자 하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to explore the virtue of hospitality and to suggest practical strategies of incorporating hospitality in a teacher education program for Christian English teachers. The virtue of hospitality has a long tradition in Christianity and it has been regarded as a core virtue in foreign language education. In the era of the fourth industrial revolution and multicultural context, the development of intercultural speaker and the virtue-based education have become of importance. In this regard, this paper first speculated the biblical traditions of hospitality and then addressed its implications in foreign language education. Finally, this paper outlined three practical suggestions to incorporate the hospitality in the teacher education program for Christian English teachers. The practice of hospitality can be realized through the course development, in-class community building activities, and through out-of-class field experiences such as service learning. Suggestions for further incorporating the virtue of hospitality in educational contexts are discussed.
