초록
This paper was conducted to explore the relationship between weather conditions and public transportation usage in response to global warming. To achieve this, transportation and meteorological data from public transit services in the Seoul metropolitan region were utilized to analyze the impact of heavy rain warnings on daily passenger volume and average travel distance. The research findings indicate that essential trips, such as commuting or school travel, are significantly less influenced by weather conditions. Additionally, older adults demonstrate a heightened sensitivity to weather conditions and exhibit a tendency to avoid or adjust their travel more than the general population. Moreover, during inclement weather, while some individuals choose to cancel their trips, others opt to minimize their exposure to unfavorable weather conditions by changing their destinations to closer locations. These research findings can provide a valuable foundation for policy development and evaluation related to climate change. Furthermore, a more comprehensive impact analysis covering a larger sample size and additional socioeconomic data could help improve services.
