A Bibliographical Review of Jose Sanchez’s Memories and the Korean Immigration in Mexico

When we study the history of the early Korean Inmigration to Mexico in 1905, it is the most difficult thing to have few primary sources with which we can restore the history properly. In this respect, ‘Memories’ in the form of testimony written by José Sánchez, a first generation immigrant, is a very important material for the study of the Korean immigration in Mexico. However, this book is not based on the accurate historical facts and data. Rather as a narrative of recalling the past, it has a lot of errors, inaccurate facts and the wrong descriptions in some large parts. For this reason, first of all, this study aims to correct the errors in the book on the basis of the existing data, and examines and explains the excerpts of academic values in the book. Consequently, this paper can provide accurate data and information to the researchers, studying the Korean immigration in Mexico. In other words, this paper can helpfully work as a research study of restoring the unclear part of the early Korean immigration in Mexico.
