색채어는 단지 현실의 색을 그대로 표시하는 것뿐만 아니라, 언어공동체의 가치와 기억, 경험에 기반을 둔 의미 확장을 실현한다. 이에, 본 연구는 스페인어 색채어 BLANCO와 NEGRO의 의미 관계와 의미론적 기능에 대해 고찰하고자 하며, 아울러, 이 색채어들의 의미와 그 가치에 대해서도 살펴보고자 한다. 본 연구의 분석 결과, BLANCO의 의미 가치는 대부분 NEGRO와 상반되며 반의어의 관계를 생성한다. 일반적으로 BLANCO는 긍정적 가치를 나타내는 반면 NEGRO는 ‘악’과 같은 부정적인 가치를 내포하기 때문이다. 나아가, NEGRO가 불운이나 슬픔과 같은 부정적 의미와 연관되는 반면 BLANCO는 보통 색채 그 자체를 지칭하기도 하는데, 이와 같이 이 색채어들이 비대칭적 관계를 형성하는 사례들 또한 발견할 수 있다. 또한 매우 드물기는 하지만 스페인어에서 BLANCO와 NEGRO가 동일한 의미를 가리키는 경우도 있음을 확인할 수 있다.
Abstract
The color terms not only denote the colors of real world, but also develop semantic extensions which are based on values, memory and experience of a linguistic community. The aim of this paper is to examine the semantic relationship between the Spanish color terms BLANCO and NEGRO and the semantic function of these words. In addition, this study deals with the meaning and lexical value of the words. According to the analysis of this study, the semantic values of BLANCO are opposite to those of NEGRO, establishing the relationship of antonyms. In general, BLANCO expresses positive values while NEGRO implies negative values such as evil. Moreover, there are some cases that these color terms form asymmetrical relations; NEGRO is associated with negative meanings like bad luck or sadness, while BLANCO usually refers to the color itself. Finally, BLANCO and NEGRO are noted as the same meaning in the Spanish language in rare cases.
