Abstract
· Research topics: The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of electricity consumption in elderly households and the factors affecting it. · Research background: We analyzed micro data to understand the characteristics of electricity usage in elderly households and improve energy welfare policies such as the energy voucher system. · Differences from prior research: This study differs from previous studies in that it took a microscopic approach to electricity use by elderly households by utilizing panel data. · Research method: Using the Household Energy Panel Survey data, a panel regression model was applied to analyze the electricity consumption of elderly households and the factors affecting it. · Research results: Elderly households consumed 11.2% less electricity than non-elderly households. In addition, factors affecting the electricity usage of elderly households were income, housing type, exclusive area, and heating method. · Contribution points and expected effects: For elderly households, energy efficiency housing supply projects and energy saving projects that introduce smart home technology could be more effective than energy voucher systems.
