가족 식사 준비 행위의 의미와 성격 고찰: 젠더화된 음식노동과 소외

초록

식생활 영역의 가사노동은 전체 가사노동 중 시간과 빈도 면에서 가장 큰 비중을 차지하며, 부부가 가사를 분담하는 가정에서도 여성이 주로 수행한다. 이는 요리를 여성적 과업으로 인식하는 성역할 규범에 따른 것이다. 본 연구는 배우자와 함께 미성년 자녀를 양육하는 여성들의 식사 준비 경험을 듣고 그들이 식사 준비 행위에 어떤 의미를 부여하는지 분석한 연구다. 이를 바탕으로 가족의 식사를 준비하는 일의 성격을 고찰하였다. 연구 결과 여성들은 모성적 성역할로서 가족들의 식사를 준비하였으며, 자신의 일상을 엄마의 일상으로 재조직했다. 또한 반복적으로 가족의 식사를 책임지는 과중함으로 인해 식사에서 주변화되고 소외되고 있었다. 이로써 식생활 영역의 가사노동 분담을 위해서는 음식을 만드는 일을 여성의 일로 여기는 전통적 성역할에 대한 성찰이 필요함을 주장하고자 한다.

Abstract

Household labor related to food preparation constitutes one of the most time-consuming and frequent domestic tasks, and even in households where chores are shared by family members, it is predominantly performed by women. This tendency reflects perpetuating gender norms that associate cooking with female work. This study examines the meal preparation experiences shared and narrated by women who raise minor children with their spouses, focusing on the meanings they assign to this task. The findings of this article indicate that women perceive meal preparation as a maternal responsibility, structuring their daily routines around these tasks. However, they also report feelings of marginalization and alienation due to the overwhelming burden of daily meal preparation. This study reveals a reflection on traditional gender roles that frame food preparation as women’s work and highlights the needs to challenge it, advocating for a more equitable distribution of household labor.
