Abstract

This article was written to suggest the direction of research on literary of Hanhwondang, Kim Goengpil. It stated that the past research had the tendency of proving his ethical practices and thoughts through literary world and that future research should be done in the direction of validating the new materials and shedding new lights on literary achievement itself. Above all, this article sought the reasons that he could be one of the most prominent characters in the early Chosun Confucianism and revealed his literary talent was such that his works were introduced to China and made a remarkable achievement. In addition, this writing partially tried bibliographical considerations on ‘DamHun Collection of Poems(淡軒詩集)’ containing new poems of Hanhwondang. This article pointed that both internal element of his ethical practices and academic achievement and external element, the tribute in a dimension of establishing Sarimpa(士林派)’s legitimacy led him to a celebrated scholar in the history of Chosun Confucianism. It emphasized that DamHun Collection of Poems had value of research because it had been edited out of the manuscript a family long possessed despite its publication date of Japanese colonial era. Into the bargain, this writing mentioned that the literary research would be a meaningful work as it would pursue certain directivity not only by studying Hanhwondang’s works themselves but analyzing future generation’s poetry and prose aimed at him.
