이명박 정권이 100일도 지나지 않아 100만 명이 거리로 쏟아져 나오는 폭발적인 대중운동이 벌어졌다. 이명박 정권의 승리를 사회운동과 대중의 보수화와 동일시하는 분위기가 운동권 진영에 만연해 있었는데, 대중은 이를 비웃기라도 하듯이 그들의 놀라운 폭발력을 보여주었고 이명박 정권의 애초 계획을 완전히 어긋나게 만들었다. 대중운동의 폭발력은, 심지어 대중의 급진화를 믿어 의심치 않았던 일부 급진좌파 그룹의 기대치조차도 뛰어넘는 것이었다. 그리고 그 촛불운동은 더 큰 대중적 폭발을 기다리고 있다. 지금 사회운동이 할 일은 이제까지의 비관주의와 냉소를 버리고 지금의 촛불운동의 가장 의식적인 일부로서 역사를 전진시키는 것이다.
Abstract
Not before one hundred days since Lee Myung-bak government launched, one million people poured into the street and protested the new government. The victory of Lee Myung-bak in the last president election was regarded by some commentators as a symptom of the rightward shift of people’s sentiments. But people ridiculed the prediction and derailed the initiative project of Lee government. The explosive power of candlelight vigil surpassed the expectation of some radical left. Now candlelight vigil look foreword more explosive power than ever seen. Now the task of social movement is cast out the pessimism and cynicism and move foreword the history as the most conscious part of candlelight vigil.
