Abstract
We propose a new diversity scheme for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing/multi-input multi-output (OFDM/MIMO) systems. The proposed scheme, named turbo layered space-frequency coded OFDM (TLSFCOFDM), exploits the turbo principle with space hopping. Because OFDM/horizontal-Bell Labs layered spacetime (OFDM/V-BLAST) transmits independent data streams on its antennas there is no built-in spatial coding to guard against deep fades from any given transmit antenna. On the other hand, TLSFC-OFDM with SH provides the spatial coding so that we can obtain the transmit diversity gain. We also introduce a successive interference cancellation algorithm that requires no ordering and fewer iterations to converge. As a result, this scheme reduces computation complexity. Computer simulation results show that the proposed system outperforms the OFDM/H-BLAST system employing a horizontal coding scheme and can operate even with fewer receive antennas than transmit antennas.
