초록
In order for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology to provide desired performance, it is required to properly select the MIMO mode according to the channel condition. However, few works have considered the effect of other-cell interference (OCI) for the mode selection. The OCI may yield low signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio, causing the shortage of resource or power in the transmission of constant bit rate traffic such as voice. In this paper, we analyze the performance of statistical eigen-beamforming and space-time block coding when combined with a minimum mean square error-type receiver in the presence of OCI. We consider the MIMO mode switching based on long-term channel statistics while considering the tradeoff between the array and the diversity gain. Simulation results show that the MIMO mode can be switched analytically to reduce the resource usage and transmit power in interference-limited and spatially correlated channel environments.
