초록

이 연구의 목적은 초등학교 교사의 학부모에 대한 감정을 분석하는 것이었다. 특히, 교사는 학부모로부터 어떤 감정을 경험하며, 그러한 감정을 어떻게 표현하고 관리하는가 하는 점을 밝히고자 하였다. 연구방법은 초등학교 교사 20명을 대상으로 심층면접을 실시하였다. 연구결과 교사는 자신의 수업 전문성을 존중하는 학부모로부터는 긍정적 감정을, 교사의 일에 지나치게 개입하는 학부모로부터는 부정적 감정을 경험하였다. 교사들은 학부모에 대해 불편함, 두려움, 불신, 화, 상실감 등과 같은 감정을 자주 경험하였다. 그러나 교사들은 교직은 감정적으로 중립적이다, 학부모와의 관계는 장기적이다, 학부모는 협력자이자 감시자라는 규칙을 내면화하고 있었으며, 이러한 감정규칙에 따라 감정표현을 조절하고 통제하였다. 교사는 이러한 감정 부조화를 해소하기 위해 학부모를 멀리하는 회피전략과 위장된 감정을 표현하는 체면전략을 사용하였다. 앞으로 교사감정의 교육적 중요성을 인식하고, 특히 교사의 감정적 자질을 함양하기 위해 교사교육을 보완할 필요가 있다.

Abstract

This study analyzed the emotional experiences of elementary school teachers to parents. In particular, it focused on what kind of emotional experiences teachers had to parents and how teachers expressed and managed their emotions. In order to explore these problems, this study drew on interviews with twenty elementary school teachers. The results are as follows. First, many teachers experienced positive emotions toward parents who respected their professionalism, but they experienced negative emotions toward parents and their overintervention in school matters. They often experienced feelings of discomfort, distrust, anger, loss, anxiety, and fear with regard to parents. Second, many teachers did not naturally express their authentic emotions to parents. Their emotional experiences were managed, adjusted and controlled by internalized rules for dealing with emotions. Teachers used two strategies to manage their emotional dissonance: avoidance strategy to physically keep their distance from parents and facework strategy to intentionally display their disguised emotions. Lastly, this study suggested that we need to emphasize the importance and implications of teacher emotions in pre- and in-service teacher education.
