Abstract
There have been great changes in ICT field during last 30 years. Especially, dramatic improvement of agility, efficiency, and economic feasibility of the operation of services and infrastructures due to their openness and virtualization is expected. On the other hand, no significant changes have been made in the networking field until very recent when SDN and NFV paradigms are trying to address architectural and functional shift. While management technology in ICT field has actively faced with technology transitions through DevOps, that of the most networking fields still depends on the static legacy management technology. Thus, substantial changes and evolution in terms of architecture and functionality are required in order to face with virtualization of ICT and network functions, complexity caused by hyper-connected network infrastructure, agility, automation, openness, and hard realtime transmission. Specifically, extension of DevOps technology to manage ICT and network resources simultaneously, management and control continuum introduced by SDN, and orchestration of multi-layer and multi-domain physical and virtual resources are issues to be addressed. In addition, evolution toward autonomic management from current reactive static management which requires human operator's decision involvement to prepare for the hyper-connected and complex network infrastructures which will be introduced by 5G and IoT is essential steps that the next generation network management technology has to cope with. In this paper, we first introduce technology and standardization trends of the current network and service management practices, then propose research issues addressing the environmental development of future networks and services, and finally try to forecast a direction of the future network and service management technology.
