일반계 고등학교 학생의 선택 과목의 진로 및 적성 관련 정도에 대한 인식과 영향 요인

이 연구의 목적은 7차 교육과정을 시작으로 도입된 선택중심 교육과정이 그 목적에 맞게 일반계 고등학생이 진로 및 적성에 부합하는 과목 선택을 할 수 있도록 실행되고 있는지를 진단하는 것이다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 한국교육개발원에서 제공하는 한국교육종단연구의 5차년도 자료를 활용하여 일반계 고등학교 2학년 학생이 선택한 과목이 자신의 진로 및 적성과 관련된다고 인식하는 정도와 이러한 인식에 영향을 미치는 요인을 가정배경특성, 개인학습자특성, 학교특성별로 진단하였다. 연구 결과, 학생들은 선택과목이 진로 및 적성과 관련되는 정도는 보통에 조금 미치지 못하는 정도로 인식하고 있었으며 위계적 다중회귀분석 결과 선택과목의 진로 및 적성 관련 정도에 대한 인식에는 학생의 내재적/외재적 학습동기, 대학전공계열, 부모의 교육적 지원 등과 더불어 듣고 싶은 과목을 선택할 수 있는 정도가 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 선택중심 교육과정이 본래의 취지대로 학생이 진로 및 적성에 부합하는 과목을 선택할 수 있도록 하기 위한 방안 및 후속연구를 제안하였다.
Abstract
This study examined Korean high school students’ perception of their curricular choices (i.e., elective-centered curriculum) by analyzing the fifth year data of the Korean Education Longitudinal Study. The findings indicated that more than half of the students indicated a positive response to their curricular choices in terms of elective-centered curriculum while a majority of students reported that the courses they selected were not matched to their aptitudes and career interests. Hierarchical multiple regression results showed that students’ perception on the degree to which their curricular choices matched with their aptitudes and career interests was largely shaped by individual factors such as intrinsic/extrinsic motivations as well as familial factors such as parental support. By comparison, school-level factors did not have as much of an effect on students’ perception as students’ individual factors. In addition, students’ perception on the degree to which they could take electives of their choice positively influenced their perception of how much electives matched with students’ aptitudes and career interests. These findings imply that promoting students’ right to select electives contributed to enabling students to make choices better suited to their individual aptitudes and career interests. Future studies and policy implications were discussed based on the results of the study.
