이제까지 경찰공무원의 외상후 스트레스 장애에 대한 연구는 매우 드물었다. 그 동안 외상후 스트레스 장애에 대한 연구들은 대부분 참전 군인들에 대한 것이었다. 그러나 최근에는 천재지변, 교통사고, 산업재해사고, 강간, 인질, 조직폭력 등 다양한 사건의 희생자들과 경찰공무원, 소방공무원, 의사 같은 위기상황에 노출되기 쉬운 집단들의 외상후 스트레스 장애에 대한 연구가 증가되고 있는 추세이다. 경찰공무원을 대상으로 한 연구들에 따르면 최근에 위기상황을 경험한 경찰공무원 중 상당수가 심각한 스트레스를 받고 있으며, 사기, 결근, 건강, 조기 퇴직, 부정적 가족관계에 상당한 영향을 미치는 외상후 스트레스 장애 증상을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구에서는 경찰공무원의 실제 외상후 스트레스 장애 수준을 파악하고, 인구사회학적 특성에 따른 외상후 스트레스 장애 수준을 비교 분석하였는데, 이를 바탕으로 하여 향후 경찰공무원 채용․인사․교육 등의 분야에 유용한 정책 자료를 제공하고자 하였다. 경찰공무원의 인구사회학적 특성은 성별, 결혼관계, 학력, 계급, 연령, 근무기간으로 분류하여 살펴보았다. 인구사회학적 특성에 따른 외상후 스트레스 장애 수준의 차이를 살펴보기 위해 독립표본 T-분석과 일원변량 분산분석(One-way ANOVA)을 실시하였다. 경찰공무원의 외상후 스트레스 장애 수준은 경찰공무원의 외상후 스트레스 장애 수준을 살펴본 다른 국내 연구결과들보다 다소 높게 나타났고, 성별에서 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 발견되었다. 끝으로 경찰공무원의 외상후 스트레스 장애에 대한 대책으로 외상후 스트레스 장애 의심 및 취약 경찰공무원의 관리, 사회적 지지망의 강화, 근로자 지원 프로그램의 활용, 위기상황 스트레스 관리의 도입, 외상후 스트레스 장애 관리교육 실시를 제안하였다.
Abstract
Studies on police officers with post traumatic stress disorder are very rare. Most studies focus on military veterans. However, there is increasing interest in other groups who are susceptible like victims of disaster, motor vehicle accidents, industrial disaster, rape, hostage, organized crime and police officers, fire fighters, health workers. According to studies, a large number of police officers who had recently been exposed to a critical incident has severe stress and post traumatic stress disorder symptoms impact on morale, absenteeism, health, early retirement, negative family relationships. In this study, I inquired into the actual level of post traumatic stress disorder among police officers and compared and analyzed the level of post traumatic stress disorder according to demographic characteristics. And I wanted to provide useful data for policy making. The level of post traumatic stress disorder among police officers was relatively high, when compared to other studies. And Statistically significant difference was found in gender. Finally, I suggested some countermeasures. I presented the management of police officers who are suffering and vulnerable to post traumatic stress disorder, the reinforcement of social support net, the application of employee assistance programs, the introduction of critical incident stress management, the training of management techniques for post traumatic stress disorder.
