Abstract

(Background and Purpose) The recent significant development of information technology is causing great changes in our society. In the field of architectural design, the complexity of projects increases day by day, and it is almost impossible to accurately understand and deal with complex relationships even if an individual architect has excellent talent and intuition. In this context, there is a need for a new way of working that does not stay in the past based on an understanding of the latest digital technology. So, in this paper, the integrated design proposal for the art museum is set as the target project and explores the establishment of metrics similarity with the street representing the place, the optimal building design based on the evaluation data by optimizing genetic algorithm optimization, analyzing the facade visibility of the building, evaluating daylight in external yards, and data visualization. This can be developed into a new design methodology that can complement the past qualitative design methods that relied on the empirical judgment and talents of the existing architectural designers. (Method) The art museum scheduled on the main roadside in the city has a great influence on the urban landscape. The museum design can be aimed to generate alternatives based on physical factors that can be a catalyst for memory in the region, maximizes visibility of the facade of the building from the main access point, and daylighting access to the external activity space. Based on this design, an art museum can be proposed on the site. To achieve this, the 3D modeling program Rhino, the visual programming language program Grasshopper and the genetic algorithm-oriented multi-objective optimization program Discover are utilized. (Results) The final design is an alternative that can provide the identity of space based on similarity to the local place and is a reasonable result determined according to simulation-based evaluation. The design is concretized so that the planned site can grow gradually into a complex cultural space of providing social education spaces, exhibition spaces, and convenience facilities for the local community, and forming a pleasant outdoor space linked with the existing park in connection with the exsiting promenade. (Conclusions) This design is a new proposal that applies both quantitative and qualitative approaches in combination along with the creation of design alternatives using parametric modeling, simulation-based performance evaluation, alternative optimization based on genetic algorithms, and form visualization processes. This is used to explore the possibility of new design methodology that can elevate the objectivity of architectural design processes and expect synergy with existing design methods.
