공공도서관의 사회적 역할 변화에 따른 공간구성에 관한 연구 -대구광역시 공공도서관을 중심으로-

Abstract

(Background and Purpose) Modern public libraries are continuously expanding their functions and roles as social, economic and cultural infrastructure facilities. Since the 2000s, overall research on space composition of public libraries has defined a paradigm in which they have various complex functions in line with the needs of the times. This study presents the architectural planning standards for future public libraries by identifying the characteristics of spatial composition corresponding to social roles for public libraries in Daegu. (Method) Among public libraries in Daegu Metropolitan City, this study focused on those that were built or remodeled after 2009. The area ratio, the relationship of the libraries to the society, and characteristics of the interior space composition were analyzed based on the architectural drawings and site visits. (Results) As public libraries play a key role in the local community, they should provide opportunities for social exchanges and to enjoy various cultural benefits. They should play a role in activating cultural programs, such as various artistic performances and providing educational and experience spaces. In the composition of the entry space that establishes the relationship between the library and the city, openness and accessibility are secured by removing the boundaries with the public space. Additionally, the libraries provide a variety of leisure spaces for local residents by including educational spaces. As for the reading space, which is the main function of public libraries, the libraries opened the reading space, except for the common space shared with the previous isolated configuration, to make it more user-friendly. As for the children's reading room, which is on the evacuation floor, it was mostly restricted in access for the sake of maintenance convenience, despite being located on the floor that is in contact with the ground. (Conclusions) For the public libraries to be used as a space for local residents as a cultural center, it is necessary to increase their utility and help local residents improve their quality of life by providing information, lifelong education, cultural space, and convenience. For the spatial composition of public libraries, it is necessary to continuously plan for change according to the changing social roles and other functions. This study analyzed public library space compositions in particular, based on the facilities among public library evaluation indicators, and provided basic data related to the used space and area composition for spatial planning.
