Abstract

(Background and Purpose) Fractal is a complex system theory that explains the structure in which things in nature occur in nature. The self-similarity of the fractal means that even if a part of the shape is enlarged, it appears similar to the whole. This characteristic leads to the creation of complex forms by recursing simple shapes on different scales. This fractal formulation is currently being applied to the skin design of architecture as an architectural design method. However, the recent emergence of geo-philic architecture is a formative characteristic that emphasizes continuity with the topography, and this type of architecture also represents the self-similarity of fractals. This feature allows us to observe the development of things dynamically. By introducing the compositional rules of fractal self-similarity, geo-philic architecture becomes a living entity. This study explores the formative properties of geophilic architecture based on fractal self-similarity. (Methods) This study first summarized the concept of geo-philic architecture and summarized the fractal theory to explain it. Subsequently, the self-similarity of the fractal was analyzed to analyze the influencing factors on architectural design. Next, using geo-philic architectural design as the study case, the rules of self-similarity of fractals in geo-philic architectural formative were analyzed. Finally, the fractal self-similarity formative value of geo-philic architecture was analyzed. (Results) Through research, it was found that the study of introducing fractal theory into the architectural design of the geo-philic form had sufficient validity. In this study, the rules for creating topography as a formative element by analyzing geo-philic architectural formations from the self-similarity of fractals were revealed, and the formative design method of architecture was derived by changing iterations. Changing scales of fractal self-similarity can produce interesting architectural formative. This process helped us understand the formative characteristics of geo-philic architecture. (Conclusion) This study projects the fractal structure of geo-philic as a way to achieve harmony in architectural formative. This could explain the aesthetic integration of fractal and geo-philic architecture. The compositional process of geo-philic architectural formative is a design method and an initiative to integrate architecture into the ecology and urban environment. Through the composition rule of fractal self-similarity, the formative value of geo-philic architecture is realized by enabling geo-philic architecture to harmonize with its surroundings on various scales. Therefore, based on the fractal theory, it is expected to provide a design method that can reach a variety of formative through the formative perception of iteration in geo-philic architecture in the future.
