초보운전자의 지각된 자기평가와 운전행동 특성 간 관계

일반적으로 초보운전자는 교통사고 유발 위험이 높은 고위험군으로 분류되지만 현재 우리나라의 면허취득 절차나 교통안전교육 수준은 초보운전자 안전도 증진을 위해 개선되어야 할 측면이 많다. 본 연구에서는 운전자 집단을 실제 운전경력과 본인이 인식하는 운전경력 수준을 기준으로 네 집단으로 나누고 운전자 집단 간 우리나라 교통문화 및 제도에 대한 태도, 주관적으로 지각하는 심리적 부담감과 교통사고 발생위험, 교통사고 및 법규위반 경험 등을 비교하였다. 연구 결과, 실제 운전경력과 본인에 대한 운전경력 평가가 일치하지 않는 집단들이 특정되었으며, 특히 운전경력은 부족하나 본인을 경력운전자로 여기는 ‘과대평가군’은 전체의 약 5% 정도로 확인되었다. 이러한 결과는 초보운전자들 모두가 동질적인 특성을 지니지 않으므로 그들의 인적요인 특성에 따라 초보운전자 안전관리 대책을 다각화 할 필요가 있다는 것을 의미한다. 이를 바탕으로 논의 부분에서는 초보운전자의 안전관리 강화를 위한 제도 개선 및 교육․훈련 강화와 초보운전자의 특성과 관련한 후속연구의 필요성을 제안하였다.
Abstract
Although the novice drivers are classified as a high-risk group, our current license acquisition procedure and traffic safety education system still need to be improved. The lack of driving skills is known as the main reason for novice drivers’ traffic accidents, however, other internal human factors also can affect their crash risks. In this present study, respondents were discriminated into four groups according to their actual driving career (over 2 years or not) and self-evaluation result (novice or not). Their subjectively recognized mental load, crash risk, and their experiences of crash and violations were compared. As a result of these comparisons, the actual driving career and the self-evaluation of the drivers did not coincide with their subjective recognition. The ‘overestimation group’, which regarded themselves as an experienced driver despite lack of experiences (less than 2 years), was found to be about 5% of respondents. The overestimation group, which mainly consisted of young males, underestimated the risk of a crash and showed relatively high confidence in various driving situations, but rather reported more traffic accidents and violations. These results indicated that novice drivers do not share the exact same characteristics, and therefore, the measures for novice driver safety management also need to be diversified. Based on these results, it is proposed that the policy improvement for reinforcement of safety management, education, and training system for novice drivers, and follow-up studies on risky characteristics of novice driver are necessary.
