Abstract
It has been recognized that the entrepreneurial spirit and innovative activities of enterprisers have a strong influence on the survival of enterprises, and further, plays an important role in sustaining the national economy as a growth engine. However, since past studies on the relationship between industrial competitiveness and entrepreneurship focused on the manufacturing sector, policymaking which takes into account the characteristics of entrepreneurships in cultural industries has been neglected. This paper deals with policy implications to encourage entrepreneurship for cultural enterprisers which would promote the potential growth of Korean cultural industries. The method used in this study is to analyze them statistically and to use the framework composing demand and supply factors that would theoretically affect the level of entrepreneurship in cultural industry markets. Results indicate that the entrepreneurial activities of small firms in the production sectors of cultural industries may rapidly boost economic performance thanks to the promotion policies of the government and certain deregulations. Policy implications may include offering education and training programs for cultural enterprisers, setting various intermediaries, access to market information, proper intellectual property right system, public subsidies for non-profit activities, and effective competition policies.
