Abstract
This paper examines how feelings are involved in human understanding of the natural world in Wordsworth's Lyrical Ballads. It, for this purpose, will look in how Wordsworth deals with feelings in the Preface to Lyrical Ballads and the credal poems named by Geoffrey Hartman. Wordsworth does not directly describe the explosive eruption of emotion. Rather, he tends to expose the issues raised by feelings by very simply emphasizing the role of human body. In “Preface,” Wordsworth implies that feelings are involved in the subjects of poetry, the poetic language, and the role of the poet, and play a role in maintaining a non-confrontational relationship with the natural world. In the poems of creed, human feelings form a bodily contact zone with the outside natural world inaccessible to reason and awaken trust in nature. This trust, Wordsworth argues, produces a newly rehabilitated relationship between man and nature. This paper suggests that the renewal of human beings led by feelings is possible when they deviate from the anthropocentric attitude toward nature. Such a renewal is the starting point for such an ecological green poetics.
