탈북의 서사화와 문학적 저널리즘 -장진성과 지현아의 탈북 수기를 중심으로

이 연구는 장진성과 지현아의 수기가 갖고 있는 문학적 저널리즘의 특징-사실의 증언과 서사적 구성–을 조명하고자 한다. 장진성과 지현아의 수기는 서사 구성이 전달하고자 하는 메시지와 밀접한 연관이 있다는 것을 보여주며, 이로 인해서 독자는 장진성과 지현아의 수기에서 각각 액션의 플롯과 교육의 플롯을 발견하게 된다. 장진성은 통일선전부원으로서 정치적 탈북을 한 경우로, 한국 입국 이후 두 편의 탈북 수기를 출판했다. 첫 번째는 도망자 모티브의 액션 플롯을 토대로 북한과 중국 경찰의 추적을 피해 남한 행에 성공하는 과정을 서술하고 있다. 그리고 두 번째 수기는 김정일을 탈신비화 하고 북한체제를 비판하는 내용을 중심으로 함으로서 첫 번째 수기를 북한 체제 비판자의 탈출 이야기로 변형한다. 지현아는 전형적인 탈북 이주자이지만, 다른 탈북 이주자들처럼 자서전 형식의 수기를 쓰지 않고, 세 번의 북송과 증산교양소에서 살아남은 경험을 중심으로 서술하고 그녀가 독재라는 북한 체제의 진실을 깨닫게 됨을 보여준다. 지현아와 장진성의 탈북 수기들은 일어난 일 혹은 체험한 일에 대한 저자의 해석에 의해서 서사가 구성되며 플롯과 같은 문학적 요소를 갖게 된다는 것을 잘 보여준다.
Abstract
This study sheds light on that North Korean defector Jang Jin-sung’ and Ji Hyeon-a’s memoirs have characteristics of both literature and Journalism. Jang Jin-sung’ and Ji Hyeon-a’s memoirs well demonstrate a narrative composition closely related to a delivered message, which made readers find the action plot and the education plot in Jang and Ji’s memoirs respectively. Jang is a former member of the Unification Propaganda Department of North Korean adminstration and did seek political asylum to South Korea in 2004. Jang published both Korean and English versions of memoirs on his defection to South Korea. The memoir in Korean adopts the motif of a fugitive, narrating a story to evade North Korean special agents and Chinese policemen, and successful entrance to South Korea. Another memoir in English focuses on the demystification of Dear Leader Kim Jung-il and criticism at North Korean regime, which transformed the original story into the story on a critic of North Korean regime. Ji Hyeon-a is a typical North Korean defector-immigrant. Nevertheless, her memoir did not share the style of auto-biography with other defectors’ memoirs, but rather focused on writing three time repatriations to North Korean and survival experiences from one of the most notorious education camp named “Jungsan kyoyangso” in North Pyeongan province, which resulted in her awakening on the truth of North Korean regime as dictatorship. These cases show that some North Korean defectors’ memoirs have characteristics of literary journalism.
