돈황 출토 티벳어 사본 수습차제 IOL Tib J 648에 대한 예비적 고찰
A Preliminary Study of the Old Tibetan Dunhuang Manuscript of the First Bhāvanākrama (IOL Tib J 648)

본 논문에서는 Kamalaśīla가 저작한 수습차제(Bhāvanākrama)의 작성 배경 및 텍스트 전승과 관련한 내용을 본격적으로 다루기 이전에예비적인 고찰로서 현존하는 범어, 티벳어, 한문으로 된 수습차제 필사본들 중 가장 오래된 필사본이라 여겨지는 돈황 출토 티벳어 사본IOL Tib J 648- 수습차제 상편-의 사본학적 특징들과 고대 티벳어철자법의 특징들 그리고 그 내용적 특징들을 소개하고자 한다. 이를 위해 IOL Tib J 648과 쥬세뻬 뚜찌(Giuseppe Tucci)가 1958년에출판한 수습차제 상편의 범어 교정본 그리고 북경판, 금사판, 데르게판, 나르탕판, 쪼네판 등 후대의 티벳대장경에 포함된수습차제 상편의 첫 시작을 나타내는 길상의 상징(maṅgala symbol)과좌측면의 여백(margin) 그리고 고대 티벳어 철자법과 같은 외형적 특징들과 함께 9가지 마음의 머무름과 관련한 각 전문술어의 명칭들과수습차제 상편의 마지막 부분의 구절들을 서로 비교하면서 IOL Tib J 648에 나타나는 다양한 특징들을 소개하고자 한다. 첫 번째로 IOL Tib J 648의 사본학적 특징은 북경판 등 후대의티벳대장경에 나타나는 쪽수와 내용 구분 및 항목 등과 같은 별도의정보가 이 사본을 시작하는 좌측면 여백(margin)에 기재되어 있지 않다는 점이다. 그리고 북경판 등 후대의 티벳대장경 판본에서도 내용구분 및 항목 등에 있어서 서로 간에 약간씩의 차이가 남을 알 수있다. 이를 통해 북경판 등 후대의 티벳대장경 각 판본이 상호간에어떤 관련성을 지니고 있는지도 알 수 있다. 또한 IOL Tib J 648에는티벳 고대 철자법에 보이는 특징들인 ‘덧붙여진 da(다닥 da drag)’, ‘ma에밑글자로 덧붙인 ya(마야딱 ma ya btags)’, ‘뒷글자로 보조하는 ’a(아뗀’a rten)’, ‘거꾸로 된 모음 i(기구록 gi gu rlog)’, ‘쌍점(첵니 tsheg gnyis)’ 등이 자주 나타난다. 특히 ‘뒷글자로 보조하는 ’a’와 ‘쌍점’이라는 특징들을 통해 여타의 돈황 출토 티벳어 사본들보다 IOL Tib J 648이 더오래된 사본이라는 점을 알 수 있다. 두 번째로 IOL Tib J 648에 등장하는 ‘9가지 마음의 머무름’에 해당하는 각 단계의 명칭과 이 사본 끝부분의 내용이 쥬세뻬 뚜찌의 범어교정본과 후대의 북경판 등 티벳대장경의 콜로폰(colophon)과도 적지않은 차이가 난다는 점이다. 이러한 몇 가지 특징들을 통해 814년 번역명의대집(Mahāvyutpatti) 이 제정되기 이전에 작성된 사본이 바로 IOL Tib J 648이며, 이 사본이바로 댄까르마 목록(까르착 댄까르마 dKar chag ldan dkar ma)에 언급된No. 607 스승(ācārya) 까말라씰라가 저술한 수습차제 3편 중 상편 일 가능성이 높기 때문에 이 사본의 가치는 크다고 할 수 있다.
Abstract
This paper aims to examine the characteristic listed in the left margins of IOL Tib J 648, the oldest Tibetan Dunhuang manuscript among the First Bhāvanākrama, and the nine stages of mental abiding (navākārā cittasthitiḥ) and the contents at the end of the IOL Tib J 648 by comparing it with the margins, the nine stages of mental abiding, and the final passages of the later Tibetan bsTan ‘gyur such as Peking, Kinsha, Derge, Narthang, Co ne editions, etc. First, IOL Tib J648’ s characteristics do not include the individual information such as page numbers, content classification, and items in the left margin of this manuscript, such as the Tibetan bsTan ‘gyur. In addition, the IOL Tib J 648 frequently appears in old Tibetan orthographies, such as the da drag, the ma ya btags, the ’a rten, the gi gu rlog, and the two vertical dots (tsheg). Second, the name of each stage corresponding to the nine stages of mental abiding (navākārā cittasthitiḥ) and the passages at the end of the IOL Tib J 648 differ significantly from Tucci’ s edition (1958) and the later Tibetan Tripitaka such as Peking, etc. Through these points, the manuscript made before 814 is IOL Tib J 648, and it is highly valuable because it is likely to be the First Bhāvanākrama, mentioned in the dKar chag lDan dkar ma.
