본 연구는 이혼 후 일과 자녀양육을 병행하는 한부모 아버지의 자녀양육 경험을 현상학적 연구방법을 통해 심층적으로 이해하였다. 더불어 자녀양육을 하면서 경험한 한부모 가족지원서비스를 통하여 어떻게 정책이 실천현장에서 작동되는지를 이용자의 관점에서 규명하였다. 이를 위해 4명의 한부모 아버지를 연구참여자로 선정하였으며 시간이 주는 두께를 탐색하기 위해 첫 면접을 진행한 뒤 3년 뒤에 다시 한 번 면접을 진행하는 종단적 질적 연구방법을 채택하였다. 양육 경험의 변화는 결혼과 이혼사이, 일과 양육사이, 한부모 가족으로 경험한 사회복지서비스의 명암, 삶의 전략을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 연구결과 한부모 아버지는 “내몰리거나 계획된 이혼”에 처하지만 공통적으로는 무대책의, 준비되지 않은 이혼을 겪었다. 연구참여자에게 ‘일’은 ‘양육전쟁’으로 비유되는 양육 사태에서 ‘전장’이면서 ‘은신처’이기도 한, ‘참호’로 체험되고 있었다. 결국 한부모 아버지는 일과 가정 사이에서 위태로운 균형을 이루는 ‘외줄타기’와 같은 삶을 경험하였다. 연구참여자가 경험한 사회복지서비스는 ‘구명보트’에서 점차 ‘계륵’으로 체험되고 있었다. 이러한 상황에서 한부모 아버지 삶의 전략은 ‘순응’과 ‘대응’을 오갔다. 총체적으로, 시간성에 기반한 한부모 아버지로서의 삶의 궤적은 ‘견디는 삶’에서 ‘살아지는 삶’으로, 서서히 ‘살고픈 삶’으로 이동하고 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 마지막으로 취약한 한부모 아버지와 자녀양육을 지원할 수 있는 가족사회복지에 대한 함의를 논의하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of the study was to phenomenologically understand rearing experience of divorced single fathers both working and child-rearing. The study, as a user of single-parent support service, investigated how this service works in a real field. Four divorced single fathers participated in interviews and post interviews after three years and, in order to observe how these three years have influenced the fathers, the study chose a longitudinal qualitative method. The changes over time were observed by events between marriage and divorce, events between work and rearing, light and shade of the social welfare service noticed by single parents and survival strategy of single fathers. The results reported that the single fathers were mostly going through hopeless, unprepared divorces as they were 'thrown' into some 'planned divorce.' In addition, for the participants, work could be a 'battlefield', 'shelter' and 'trench' in this 'rearing war.' In other words, those fathers were living a life of a 'tightrope walker' trying to survive work and home. In addition, the social welfare service that the participants have experienced was being considered something that they should cope with but not a 'lifeboat' any more. Here, the fathers decided to live between 'adapting' and 'coping'. In general, life of a single father based on a timeline was observed to be 'life that they should tolerate', 'life that they automatically live' and 'life that they would love to live.' Based on the results, the implications for family social welfare were discussed to support single fathers and their child-rearing.
