현행 정악의 개념과 그 형성배경에 대한 재조명

Abstract

There have been many concepts of Chngak, which has been considered as one of the main parts of Korean traditional music. We so far have thought that Chngak might be a concept related to the high culture, the upper classes, or cultivating mind, so that many people have regarded it as music having a long tradition.However, the contemporary Chngak could only be music of Yiwangjik a-akbu(이왕직아악부; court music department of Lee Dynasty in the period of Japanese colony), and traditionally we did not have the concept and category of Chngak.It seems that the musicians in a-akbu regarded their music as 'right music', and gave them the concept of Chngak meaning right music, then thought of the music which were not theirs as 'low' or 'vulgar' music. This notion became solider in the process of the establishment of the National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts.
