초록
It is not an overstatement that what is important in music production is using the technology of MIDI. There are two main purposes in use of MIDI; first, we can make new sound which is not exist before and create more modern and future-oriented sound through it. Second, we can predict what sounds will be performed in real musical instruments before they do. And we can also save budget through the recordings of MIDI works instead of hiring and recording with real performers. Because of these reasons, there are frequent usages of MIDI these days. According to the fact, all MIDI instrument manufacturers try to make most realistic MIDI instruments to suite musicians' needs and musical expectations. Around 1980's, the sampler technology came to the music industry. In that period, the early version of sampler was a revolutionary midi equipment that produces sounds using actually recorded sources. This hardware-based sampler technology developed continuously and has reached to PC and software-based technology these days. Therefore, bigger recorded sources and more amount of sounds were become available and also more detailed and sophisticated sound sources as well. Especially in midi orchestration field, many impressive sound sources those are extremely realistic were manufactured due to cover the difficulties of using real orchestra that costs huge budget to hire. Compare to the United State, available budget for music producing in Korea is normally very low. That's why many Korean musicians have been using the PC and software-based sampler instruments instead of real performers. However, it seems that there is always lack of researches and deepness studies about the technologies that are changing everyday. This project investigates the most recent midi orchestration technologies focusing on new features of the state of the art products today. This research offers how to make most realistic orchestral expressions with the new technologies. Finally, this paper suggests possibilities to apply the new technologies to real orchestra situation effectively and more musically.
