散·韻 혼합담론의 유형과 양상: 『秋齋紀異』를 중심으로

Abstract

The writing style, which composes a text in a way of combining or mixing prose and verse, is one of the ubiquitous characteristics in East Asian literature. This study is designed as part of an effort to explore entire aspects of the mixed-style texts. The Gii, referring to 71 texts in an anthology of Chujae Cho Su-sam in the late Choson period, is one of the typical texts which are marked by such a mixed style writing. In each text, a prose which a biological narrative is described, is followed by a verse whose content is a recapitulation of the prose part and whose form constitutes a hepta-syllabic quatrain. Unlike other studies so far, which have seen the prose parts as biographical narratives, this study considers it to be a kind of "preface," thereby categorizing it as "preface-added type" among 6 types of the mixed-style texts. According to some remarks on Cho Su-sam, he was versed both in composing poems and in storytelling. Viewed from these remarks, it becomes apparent that he was interested in combining the two writing modes to compose a text. Added this individual writing taste, the characteristics of the late Choson period marked by dynamism and multi-value oriented way of thinking, can be considered as one of the impetuses to bring the Gii into existence in the time of the late Choson period.
