초록
미(美)라는 것은 즐거움을 주는 것이다. 산수ㆍ초화 등 자연으로부터 받아들이는 자연미(自然美)와 사람이 만들어내는 창작적인 예술미가 있다. 자연미에 감탄하고 예술미(藝術美)에 놀라면서 미는 인간이 추구하는 최고의 경지임을 알게 되었다. 언제부터인가 우리나라와 타국과의 문화의 차이, 특히 미적인 차이를 주시하게 되었다. 이 논문에서는 한국미의 본질이 무엇인가 하는 점과, 한국의 미(美)에는 오랜 세월 면면히 이어져 내려온 불멸의 생명력과 같은 아름다움이 있다는 것을 논하였다. 자연미를 특징으로 한 한국의 미는 그 내면에 단순하고 소박한 아름다움과 평온함이 담겨있을 뿐만 아니라 유현함과 풍류의 멋까지 깃들어 있음을 밝히고자 하였다. 조용한 산암의 석불 석굴암은 한국미의 결정체라고 할 수 있다. 석굴암 조각은 정밀의 미, 적막의 미, 자연미가 흐르고 있음을 느끼게 한다. 경건한 마음, 명상의 세계로 인도되어 지는듯 하지 않는가. 이집트의 스핑크스 앞에서 느꼈던 거대한 위압감이 아닌 것이다. 외국에 나가 우리와 다른 그 나라만의 문화에 흥미와 감동을 경험한 것처럼 외국인들도 한국의 문화와 전통, 아름다움을 발견하고 느끼고 경험하고 싶을 것이다. 한국의 미술품은 요란스럽지 않다. 조용하고 그윽하면서 때로 적막하다. 그것은 작품자체의 조화에도 있지만, 주위환경이나 자연과의 융합 조화가 있기 때문이다. 한국의 고미술, 건축, 조각, 공예품의 공통 특색은 자연에 응집하는 조화, 평범하고 조용한 효과- 자연과 무아가 한국적 미의 세계의 핵심이라 할 수 있다. 문화의 힘은 국력인 것이다. 우리의 전통과 문화 속에 깃들어 있는 한국미의 특성을 바르게 인식하고 발전시키고 알리는 작업이 꾸준히 이루어져야 한다.
Abstract
This essay tried to expose the distinguished characters of nature, simplicity and romantic elegance as the typical beauties of Korea. The beauties give us plentiful pleasures of life. Besides of natural beauties sweetly scented from perfumed flowers and mountainous scenary, we can enjoy the artificial beauties created by human beings. Each countries have their natural environment and beauties with the cultural differences and aesthetic values. We can realize the powers of energetic life from the variety of beauties created by the Korean people. And we can enjoy the quiet inward feelings, simplistic scenary and romantic elegance from our natural beauties and environments. Sukulam, Buddha statue carved in the rocks, is the symbolic beauty of Korean sculptures. It leads us to the peaceful reverence and the state of meditation. We have not found any ambiguities or ostentatiousness in the works of Korean arts. The Korean arts contain the feelings of tender-heartedness, placidity and sometimes solitudes in their works. This peculiar trends are derived from the harmony of arts with the beauty of nature and surrounding environments in Korea. The common characteristics of antique arts, fine arts, architectures, sculptures and handicrafts in Korea can be found in the their natural harmony with the general effects of simplicities and placidity, leading to the world of artistic beauty of Korea. The cultural achievements are our national power and resources. We should keep, develop and let to know the excellent superiority of our splendid arts, nature and environment to the world.
