Abstract

The Prose Age is evaluated as a starting point of new literary generation whose turning point is 4.19 Revolution. It declared a cutting-off and difference from the previous 50’s literature, however, this paper demonstrates that its efforts are not sufficient enough to show the whole new starting. It is evident that The Prose Age showed the process of figuring a new literary field in that Literary people who had same problematic organized a group and played significant roles in shifting generations. Nevertheless, It is difficult to admit that The Prose Age has a truly innovative perspective or literary tendencies reflecting the historical changes caused by 4.19 Revolution, when we make researches focusing on the works of The Prose Age. On the contrary, these works illuminate no distinctions, for they still recognize the world as an absurd existentialistic space owing to the impact of the Korean War. The thing which is different to them is that they paid attention to everyday routine ongoing despite the War. In this respect, The Prose Age is said to be adjacent to the previous generation rather than cutting off.
