영화 <올드보이>에 담긴 박찬욱 감독의 세계관

Abstract

Old Boy directed by Park Chan-Wook takes Oedipus complex as a main motif. The core of developing the incidents is the incests of Lee Woo-Jin ․ Lee Soo-A and Oh Dae-Soo ․ Mi-do. They have a causal relationship. As the incest of Lee Woo-Jin ․ Lee Soo-A is committed by Oh Dae-Soo's words, the incest of Oh Dae-Soo ․ Mi-do is committed by Lee Woo-Jin's words. In the aspect of Oh Dae-Soo and Lee Woo-Jin, at first, Oh Dae-Soo has a dominant position, afterward, Lee Woo-Jin has a dominant position. By the shift of domination, mutual role is changed. In that situation, Oedipus complex(incest) symbolizes the standard of revolt against the oppressing social structure. Relating Park Chan-Wook's concern about Hyo-Sun and Mi-Seon, joining the Democratic Labor Party, supporting Kwon Young-Ghil, a presidential candidate, this movie conveys a message that we should be free from the oppression of USA(the haves). Contrary to the original comic book, this movie is a story with a happy ending that Oh Dae-Soo realizes his love with Mi-do, erasing his memory that Mi-do is his daughter. It is a symbolic message that Korea(the Third World) should be free from the oppression of USA.
