초록

This study examines the Buddhistic-ecological imagination of Korean modern poetry. The Buddhistic-ecological imagination can be classified into three groups, the imagination of yonkiron(緣起論), the imagination of yunhwoiron(輪廻論), and the symmetrical imagination. Contemporary science such as quantum theory, has found out that there is no isolated reality in the cosmos. According to the contemporary science, the cosmos is not the combination of the fragments but the organic whole composed of interdependence of everything. The organic cosmos is not the reality but the relation and the becoming. Such cosmology is similar to yonkiron of Buddhism. The Korean modern poets noticed the similarity between the yonkiron and the contemporary cosmology. They expressed the cosmos-eco-system as the organism of interdependence by the imagination of yonkiron. The mind is connected with the matrial according the New Science theory. Such theory interprets the yunhwoiron newly. The immortaliy of mind is cosmic mind made by circulation of cosmos. The samsara(yunhwoi) is the bad circulation in Buddhism, but Korean modern poets imagined it as a good and beautiful circulation. Their imagination of yunhwoiron expresses the connection and the interdependence of the self and the other, the organism and the material, the part and the whole. The connection and the interdependence are accompanied by the concept of the love. The love is similar in concept to the Self-realization of the deep ecology theory. The world view of Buddhism has the characteristic of the principal of symmetry. The concept of symmetry is similar to the concept of 'fractal' of the contemporary science. Such concept means that the part and the whole, the parts and the parts are related by the principal of symmetry. The symmetrical imagination of Korean modern poets, makes the small and the big, the part and the whole equal. And that bestows the high value on the small things. Therefore, that reminds us the mercy on the small organism. The imagination makes the self small comparing with the big cosmos, and makes the self humble. While on the other, the imagination makes the self big as cosmos by the principal of symmetry, and that connects the self and the cosmos as a holistic organism. The Buddhistic-ecological imagination can give us the post-modern vision of lyrical ecotopia.
