<鶯鶯傳>의 분석심리학적 연구―에로스적 원리를 중심으로

Abstract

This thesis is aimed at analyzing Anima in Zhang Sheng(張生), Animus in Yingying(鶯鶯) and the principle of Eros, instinct of life in <The Story of Yingying(鶯鶯傳)>, based on the Analytical Psychology of Jung. This work shows how the main character, Yingying(鶯鶯), accomplishes Self-actualization through the principle of Eros. The two characters fall in passionate love in the first half. However, their separation in the latter half of the story results from the excessive Anima and Animus. The Persona and the Shadow of Zhang Sheng(張生) caused by collective conservatism benumbed his Self-consciousness, he is not aware of his Anima. The Persona idenfied with the Self made him selfish. He judged Yingying(鶯鶯) with his one-sided criterion and justified the parting from her. His friends also agree on the excuse for his decision. The vertical principle of the power was much stronger than the equal principle of the love in those days of the confucian view of the world. He was just an immature youth in Eros and the typical man made in that confucian society. The love, the conflict and the breakup of a pair of lovers appear in the poems and the letters of Yingying(鶯鶯) in the story. Yingying(鶯鶯) refuses to see him and manifests her Self-consciousness in the end. There is little point in recalling about her old flame. The wrench of parting leads to her unconsciousness and the latter gives birth to something new and wonderful in the same breath. A new life begins again and Yingying(鶯鶯) realized the Eros. It is the most meaningful thing for her to come back to the Eros, the source of life. In conclusion, the principle of Eros, that is in the love and in the desire, leads Yingying(鶯鶯), heroine of the story, to the Self-actualization through the pleasure and the pain of the love. But Eros gives Zhang Sheng(張生) temporary desire and immature Self just remains.
