관동대지진 학살문제의 존재론-방법으로서의 ‘오인’과 가능성으로서의 ‘지인’-

관동대지진 학살사건은 ‘조선인’을 겨냥한 구조적 폭력의 결과였다. 그러나 그날 피살된 ‘조선인’은 반드시 ‘조선인’만은 아니었다. 본고는 이 미묘한 틈새로부터 출발한다. 학살을 다루는 모든 연구가 그날 땅속 깊숙이 파묻혀진 시체들을 ‘특정한 존재’로 표상하는 일과 무관할 수가 없다면, 그날 조선인이란 ‘무엇’이었는가라는 질문 또한 피할 수가 없기 때문이다. 그동안 민족주의적 시각에 의해 주변화되었던 ‘오인’이라는 문제는 그런 의미에서 학살연구에 새로운 가능성을 열어주는 방법이 될 것이다. 본고에서는 이와 같은 문제의식에서 이하의 분석을 시도했다. 먼저 학살의 대상으로서의 ‘불령선인’이 어떻게 창출되는지를 학살의 주체가 된 치안당국과 재향군인의 인식을 통해 살펴보았다(Ⅱ장). 그런 다음에 ‘오인’의 현장에 들어가 ‘잠재적 조선인’에 대한 자경단의 심문과정이 어떻게 이루어졌는지를 살펴보았다(Ⅲ장). ‘심문-증명’의 끝없는 연쇄고리를 끊어준 것은 ‘지인’의 등장이라는 상황이었다(Ⅳ장). 그런데 ‘불령선인이 아님’을 증언해주는 지인은 조선인이 학살의 대상이 된 경우에도 나타났다(Ⅴ장). 마지막 결론에서는 오인/학살로부터 구출된 상황의 이와 같은 공통성을 염두에 두고 지금도 해결되지 않고 있는 학살이라는 폭력에 ‘함께’ 저항해 나가는 ‘보편적 인식’의 가능성을 타진했다.
Abstract
The massacre occurred during the Great Kanto Earthquake in Japan results from the structural violence targeting “Korean”. However, not everyone who was slaughtered was Korean. This paper starts from this subtle discrepancy. If all research dealing with the massacre cannot avoid to representing the victims buried deep under the ground as specific characters, then it also cannot avoid to asking the following question; “What” was the Korean on the day of massacre? In this sense, the issue of “misperception”, thus far ignored due to the nationalistic approach, will open a new chapter in the ontological question of the massacre. In this vein, this paper analyzed the issue of the massacre in the Great Kanto Earthquake. First of all, I gave a description to how the “bad Korean” are made as a target of massacre by clarifying the perceptions of the authorities and local veterans who led the massacre(Chapter Ⅱ). Then, I entered the scene of misperception and revealed interrogation process of the vigilante group targeting “potential Korean”(Chapter III). The process of interrogating and proving whether he/she is bad Korean or not was bound to continue endlessly, and it was the guarantee of “acquaintance” that could cut this chain(Chapter Ⅳ). In this process, just as there were acquaintances who rescued Japanese by testifying that they were not Korean, there were also acquaintances who rescued Korean by testifying that they were not bad Korean(Chapter V). Lastly, in the conclusion, I consider the commonalities of the situations rescued from misperception and massacre with suggestions to achieve a “universal awareness” that can “together” resist the yet-to-be- resolved violence of the massacre.
