Abstract
Malaysia is a multicultural country consisting of Asia’s 3 major races, Malays, Chinese and Indians. This study is to find the regionalism of Malaysia through the characteristics of multi races country in Malaysiaand resulting the policies and major landscapes, based on the international migration and composition ofpopulation of Malaysia. A primary cause that Malaysia became a Multi-races country nowadays is related toBritish colonial rule at the end of the 19th century, which Chinese and India were taken by deportation mainlydue to increasing the labor demands in rubber plantations and tin factories. In addition to that, as types ofprofession were getting more divided that Chinese were more engaged in commercial or industrial businessand Malays were more engaged in agriculture according to the role separation policy of British. It was a causeof economic gap and eventually generated racial tension. That drove to establish the policy of Bumiputera(or ‘sons of the soil’) by the government in the past, which was the policy of Malays empowerment, andrecently to introduce the policy of ‘Satu Malaysia’ in order to compensate the defects of Bumiputera.Nowadays, Chinese-Malaysian and Indian-Malaysian have kept their identity as well as Malaysian withmaintaining their own traditions and culture, and bond diaspora with links to their mother country.
