고대 일본인의 ‘늙음’ 인식 고찰 ―요로령(養老令) 속 연령 규정과의 비교를 중심으로―

本稿は、古代日本社会で「老人」と分類される年齢と、個人が自らの「老い」を認識する時点間の差異と関連性について分析したものである。日本の上代文学の中で登場人物が自分の「老い」を言及する述語的表現がどのような文脈の中で使われているのかを分析し、これを通じて、個人が「老い」を受容して認識する時点を調べた。さらに、古代の法令である養老令の中に規定された老人の年齢基準とともに、官職辞職に関する年齢規定も調べた。これにより、社会制度的に定義された老人と、個人が自らの「老い」を認識する自我認識との関連性について論じた。このような分析を通して、特定の年齢に達すると社会的責務に対する「剥奪」を経験しなければならない現代の社会制度に示唆を示し、生涯周期の中で老年期に対する再考に寄与できると期待される。
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the relationship between the age at which ancient Japanese people were classified as "elderly" and the point at which they recognized their own "old age" and examine the differences in perceptions. By analyzing the verb phrases in the characters in Japanese ancient literature that refer to "old age," we examined the point at which individuals accept and recognize "old age." Additionally, we examined the age standards for older adults and the age regulations related to resignation from office in the ancient legal code, the Yoro Code. Based on the analyses, we discussed the relationship between the socially defined “elderly” and the self-awareness of their own "old age." This study provides implications for modern societies in which people experience "deprivation" of social responsibilities when they reach a certain age, and contributes to reconsidering old age in the life cycle.
