Abstract

]During Republican China, the Beijing government intended to modernize the administrative structure of its police system, in order to civilize the Chinese society by better exercising the power of the nation. As this modernization process intrigued me, I have focused my study on the organizations and objectives of Beijing headquarters and the local terminal organizations of the Beijing police system the terminal police organizations hereby mean those where local policemen deal with local population. These organizations were consisted of Quyu and Shequ police departments. The Quyu police organization delivers the orders to terminal branches from the headquarters, supervise the branches to accomplish, while the Shequ police deal with various issues regarding patrol, stand-guard, and census registration and being on-duty, so as to exercise power on general population's everyday life.(Sungshin Woman's University History Department/lim1919@sungshin.ac.kr)
