Abstract

This paper is a part of my efforts to understand Namchul Park's first anthology called Man On The Ground through a detailed analysis of Christian image and imagination that we can find in his early works. The title of his anthology inherently insists on thinking of 'God In The Heaven' by way of juxtaposing the words Man and God, Ground and Heaven. This sort of comparison or juxtaposition gives us a very useful tool for analysing his works in general. Certainly, his early works deal with the problems of 'here' and 'a man', but paradoxically, his questioning on these subjects shows how deeply he is looking for God.To the christians who live in the age where God is absent and silent, The Prayer, a parody of the Holy Prayer, gives readers an opportunity to think about what is the real faith and who they are as christians. It should be very valuable to reexamine The Prayer, because it asks a lot of essential questions about the identity of a Korean christian and the social value of his faith.
