초록
The Honorary Consul and Monsignor Quixote are Graham Greene's later religious novels. Compared to his earlier religious novels, the themes and subjects of The Honorary Consul and Monsignor Quixote are broadened by the combination of religion and politics. As religion is a part of culture, so politics is a part of life. Although religion and politics differ, they both exist on the same ground of life. In The Honorary Consul Greene deals with the theology of liberation, human love, the commitment to human miseries, eternal life and future hope. In Monsignor Quixote Greene deals with the commonalities of Catholicism and Communism, the hope for the future that is not coming but is expected, the relationship between fact and fiction, and eternal life, human understanding and human love. In conclusion, Greene's Catholicism concerning God and human beings and politics concerning human beings are consistent in their deep contexts. They are converged into one: Greene's progressive Catholic Imagination. The core of his progressive Catholic Imagination is the love of God and human beings and the unfailing hope of the future.
