바울 초기 생애 연대표

초록

본고는 1세기 기독교와 로마에 대한 역사 연구에 근거해서 바울의 초기 연대를 파악하고자 시도하였다. 먼저 바울은 일반적으로 기원후 5년에 태어났다고 이야기된다. 필레몬에게 보내는 서간의 저술 연대가 중요한 기준이 된다. 필레몬에게 보낸 서간의 저술 연대는 50년대 후반이나 60년대 초반으로 이야기 된다. 필자는 53/4년에 쓰였을 것이라고 생각한다. 그리고 바울이 기샬라에서 태어나서 타르소스로 이주했다는 히에로니무스의 진술에 신빙성이 있다고 생각한다. 두 사실을 종합하면 바울은 기원전 4/3년에 태어났다. 바울의 회심은 36년에 이루어졌다. 많은 학자들이 ‘티베리우스 통치 15년째’가 기원후 12년이라고 파악하고, 세례 요한이 활동을 시작한 시점은 26/7년으로 생각한다. 그러나 1-2세기 문헌은 모두 티베리우스 통치 15년을 28/9년으로 파악했다. 따라서 세례 요한이 28/9년에 활동을 시작했고, 예수는 29년에 세례를 받았으며, 3년여 간의 공생애를 마치고 33년에 죽었다. 예수가 죽은 후 예루살렘 교회가 세워졌고, 그로부터 상당 시간이 지난 후 스테파노에 대한 박해가 있었다. 따라서 바울의 회심은 36년에 이루어졌다. 바울은 자신이 회심 후 3년 뒤에 다마스쿠스에서 나바테아 왕국의 총독으로부터 탄압을 받았다고 진술하였다. 그런데 나바테아 왕국의 아레타스 4세가 다마스쿠스를 통치한 것은 37년에서 40년 사이였다. 이 사실은 바울의 회심이 36년에 이루어졌다는 추론을 뒷받침한다. 그리고 바울은 ‘14년 뒤’에 2차로 예루살렘 방문했다고 말하였다. 이 때 ‘14년 뒤’는 회심 이후로부터이다. 따라서 바울의 2차 예루살렘 방문은 49년에 이루어졌다.

Abstract

In grasping the history of the first church, it is important to define the chronicle of the Apostle Paul. Discussions on this were insufficient due to the lack of data. This paper attempted to grasp Paul’s early Chronology based on historical research on Christianity and Rome in the first century. First, it is generally said that Paul was born in A.D. 5. The date of writing of the letter to Philemon is an important criterion. The chronology of the letter to Philemon is said to be in the late 50s or early 60s. I think it was written in 53/4. And I think Hieronimus’s statement that Paul was born in Gishala and moved to Tarsos is credible. Putting the two facts together, Paul was born in 4/3 BC. Paul’s conversion took place in 36 years. Many scholars believe that the 15th year of Tiberius’ rule was the A.D.12, and that John the Baptist began his activities in 26/7. However, literature from the 1st and 2nd centuries all identified the 15th year of Tiberius’ rule as 28/9. So John the Baptist began his career in 28/9, Jesus was baptized in 29 and died in 33 after three years of public ministry. After the death of Jesus, the Church of Jerusalem was established, and after a considerable period of time there was persecution against Stephen. Therefore, Paul’s conversion took place in 36 year. Paul stated that he was oppressed by the Governor of the Kingdom of Navatea in Damascus three years after the conversion. It was 37 to 40 years when Arethas IV of the Kingdom of Navatea ruled Damascus. This fact supports the reasoning that Paul’s conversione was made in 36 years. And Paul said he visited Jerusalem for a second time ‘14 years later’. ‘14 years later’ is from the time of conversion. Therefore, Paul’s second visit to Jerusalem took place in 49.
