Abstract

The country’s urban policy has been changing in accordance with the recent paradigm of green growth. This research attempts to present the ways of developing green towns through theoretical consideration and case analysis to explore the ways of making green villages of the green growth age. First, I considered the flow of ‘Maeulmandeulgi’ (making villages) and Japan’s ‘Matzizukuri’ to define the concept of green town keeping pace with green growth which is the flow of policies at home and abroad. In the case analysis, the analysis was conducted on the parameters (plan factors), aiming value, characteristics of business regions, correlations between the final beneficiary class and the promoting system in the 27 cases that could give implications. Through the theoretical consideration and the case analysis, the keywords for success such as residents’ participation, community life, village leader, specialization plan, alternative education and care, culture and art, social enterprises, and network could be derived. Based on the results of this research, the green town development strategies of ① the expansion of residents’ recognition and value sharing ② the specialization of the regions and maintenance of continuity ③forming the low carbon village environment and practice of green life, ④ the networking and systematization of business ⑤ the vitalization of alternative educational environment and common care (senior citizens and infant care) can be presented.
