Abstract
To improve the transformation efficiency by Agrobacterium tumefaciens mediation in indica rice, we used calli derivedfrom imature and mature embryo. Cali formed from immature embryos produced more transgenic plants than those from matureembryos. The maximum transformation frequency was achieved from calli of imature embryos developed for 21 days after polli-nation. Co-cultivation period with Agrobacterium neded to be 3 days to obtain transgenic plants. The efficiency of transformationdifered from rice cultivars. A indica cultivar, Samgangbyeo showed the highest efficiency (9.5%) of transformation among sevencultivars. The stable integration of the BcGR1 was confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and Southern blot analysis oftransformants.
