Abstract
A new sesame variety Nambackwas developed at the National Crop Experiment Station through a cross between com-mercialiy utilized varieties of high yielding Danbackkae and late seding of second cropping adaptable Chinjukkae at 1989 andhad been selected by pedigre breeding method in 2001. It outyielded the check variety by 24% in yield performance trial from 1996to 1998. amback has a peculiar plant type of shorter plant height and dense capsule bearing habit and few branching with threecapsules per axil, bicarpellates and quadriloculi. Its grain is larger and heavier than that of the check angbackkae. Resistance ofthe variety against phytophthora blight and lodging were stronger than those of the check variety angbackkae The variety namedSuwon 172 was appeared to be wel adapted to second cropping after barley, recording 897 kg/ha that was 3% higher than checkvariety in RYT for thre years at 5 locations, but a little lower in monocropping. Oil content of Namback was similar to that of thecheck variety Yangbackkae which is one of the highest cultivars in Korea. It contains not only high oleic acid preferable preventingrancidity but also higher ratio of oleic/linoleic preferable for the safety of acidification. Lignans such as sesamin, sesamolin and ses-aminol triglucosides efective for activation of vitality and prevent aging in in vivo were remarkably high in ambackcomparingto check variety.
