Abstract
An experiment was conducted to determine N2-fixation eficiency using 5 soybean genotypes, viz. hiang Mai (CM)60 J1 anta Maria, USL 20004 AGS 292and 40 rhizobium strains from the Soil Microbiology Group, Soil ScienceDivision, Department of Agriculture. Based on 2 diferent tests, one in cement tanks and the other in sand culture, 3 soybean lines(CM 60, SJ1, KUSL 20004) and 2 rhizobium strains, DASA 01026, and DASA 01054, were chosen for further studies. The soy-bean lines were intercrosed in all possible manner to obtain 6 F1 combinations from which 6 F2 families were derived and inoc-ulated with the rhizobia. Broad-sense heritabilities of the traits related to N2-fixation ability revealed that heritability for number ofnodules/plant was lowest. While broad-sense heritabilities for nodule dry weight, plant dry weight, and acetelyne reduction assay(ARA) were moderately high. The ARA was found corelated wel with the other N2-fixation traits. For yield-related traits, seedyield/plant and pods/plant were moderately heritable while seeds/pod and 100-seed weight were low heritable.
