Abstract
Durability of rice bacterial blight resistance genes against Korean isolates of Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae was eval-uated at flag leaf stage using 69 strains collected from different locations or different rice cultivars during 1987-1989 and 1994-1996. Near-isogenic line IRBB10 harboring resistance gene Xa10 and Korean rice cultivar Milyang 23 showed highly susceptibleresponse to all of the 69 strains. Although IRBB lines having Xa1, Xa3, Xa4, xa8, and Xa14, respectively showed resistance to mostisolates collected during 1994-1996, there were many isolates highly virulent to those resistance genes widely distributed during1987-1989. Xa21resistance genes Xa1, Xa3, Xa4, xa8, Xa10, Xa14, and Xa21 were potentially vulnerable resistance genes in Korea. However,absence of virulent isolates to the isogenic lines, IRBB5 and IRBB7 during the last 10 years between 1987-1996 suggested that thetwo resistance genes xa5 and Xa7 would be an useful source for durable resistance to Korean X. oryzae pv. oryzae population.
